Access Control Protocols for Interconnected WDM Rings in the DAVID Metro Network

چکیده
DAVID (Data And Voice Integration over D-WDM) is a research project sponsored by the European Community aimed at the design of an optical packet-switched network for the transport of IP traffic. The network has a two level hierarchical structure, with a backbone of optical packet routers interconnected in a mesh, and metropolitan areas served by sets of optical rings connected to the backbone through devices called Hubs. The paper focuses on nodes and Hubs architecture, and on the operations of the media access protocol to be used in the DAVID metropolitan area network. A simple access protocol for datagram (not-guaranteed) traffic is defined and its performance are examined by simulation.

Implementation of medium access control for interconnecting slotted rings to form a WDM metropolitan area network
A system of slotted interconnected rings employing a combination of wavelength-division multiple access (WDMA) with time-division multiple access (TDMA) can serve a metropolitan area without electro-optical conversion and buffering of payload except at system entry points. The multiple rings overcome the power budget limitations of the single ring extending the reach of the system to even the l...

As data traffic increase rapidly, IP over WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) transport will replace conventional SONET transport in current metropolitan area networks. Such networks will require new MAC protocols to efficiently share network bandwidth among multiple network nodes. This research project describes and evaluates a novel Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Idle Detection (CSMA/I...
متن کاملEnd-to-End Performance Evaluation of Interconnected Optical Multi-ring Metropolitan Networks
Metropolitan ring networks are usually used to connect the high speed backbone networks with the high speed access networks. In this paper, we focus on the end-to-end performance of a multi-ring architecture in which metropolitan access networks (MANs) are interconnected by a metropolitan core network. These rings are synchronized and can be interconnected transparently through single access no...

A new optical access network, named “Scalable Advanced Ring-based passive Dense Access Network Architecture” (SARDANA), is presented. It transparently integrates WDM metro and TDM PON access technologies, implementing ring protection, 100 km reach and up to 1024 users served at 10 Gb/s, with passive highly-shared infrastructure. The introduced innovations are hybrid ring/tree WDM/TDM Passive Op...
